How I ended up in an actual rose petal shower

Winter Solstice

Wishing you a happy Solstice! Yesterday was Summer Solstice here in the UK today and after leading a meditation for my membership the moment the sun was at its closest (4.54pm), our friends Lisa and Rich Lister came over to celebrate for a BBQ.

This week has been a bit of an unexpected week of celebration. On Wednesday night I was invited by my friend Mel Carlile to attend a special private concert with Krishna Das in celebration of “Pushpa Abhishek” (a festival of flowers) and OMNOM, a new charity that is opening its first site in London this summer.

I had no idea what to expect when I walked through the doors and was beyond delighted to discover the evening would be made up of so many of my favourite things: devotional chanting, ceremony, delicious food, dancing (“Garba” is a type of festive folk dance that originates from Gujarat, India) and rose petals galore! It was a deep celebration of diversity and reminded me of why I love London.

Rose petals were devotionally showered onto the altar and then onto all of us as we danced together… the fragrance was exquisite and opened the hearts of strangers. When I got home I even found rose petals in my bra! The evening was made so very special by the soulful voice of Krishna Das, singer of so many of my favourite chants. Today, driving back home I am feeling very blessed and fortunate indeed. And so happy that I prioritised this spontaneous trip over my busy schedule. Ain’t that always the case.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and enjoying your incredible life.
